By installing the YouTube Transcript AI Summary browser extension, accessing aisummary.app, or using any part of the Service, you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms") and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated herein by reference.
If you do not agree to these Terms, do not install or use the Service. These Terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access or use the Service.
2. Description of Service
AISummary is a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge that retrieves publicly available transcripts from YouTube videos and sends them to an AI provider of your choice (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google) to generate a summary.
The Service consists of:
- The free browser extension available in browser extension stores
- An optional Pro licence that unlocks additional features (see Section 4)
- The website at aisummary.app
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time with or without notice.
3. Licence Grant
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to:
- Install and use the extension on devices you own or control
- Access and use the website for personal, non-commercial purposes
You may not:
- Copy, modify, or distribute the extension source code without our written permission
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the extension
- Sublicence, sell, or transfer your rights under these Terms
- Remove or alter any proprietary notices in the Service
4. Pro Plan & Payments
4.1 Pro Licence
The Pro plan is sold as an annual licence key at $11.99 per year. Purchasing the Pro plan grants you access to additional features including long video summaries, custom prompt templates, and multi-API support as described on our pricing page.
4.2 Payment Processing
Payments are processed by third-party payment processors. We do not store your payment card information. All transactions are subject to the payment processor's terms and privacy policy.
4.3 Refunds
We offer a 7-day money-back guarantee. If you are not satisfied, contact us within 7 days of purchase at contact@aisummary.app for a full refund. Refund requests made after 7 days are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
4.4 Licence Key
Your Pro licence key is personal and non-transferable. You may not share, resell, or distribute your key. We reserve the right to revoke keys found to be in violation of these terms.
4.5 Renewal
The Pro plan does not auto-renew. You will need to purchase a new licence when your annual key expires if you wish to continue using Pro features.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes. You must not use the Service to:
- Violate any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation
- Infringe the intellectual property rights of YouTube, video creators, or any third party
- Circumvent YouTube's Terms of Service in a manner that causes harm to YouTube or its creators
- Generate, distribute, or promote content that is unlawful, harmful, harassing, defamatory, obscene, or otherwise objectionable
- Attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or gain unauthorised access to the Service or its related systems
- Use automated scripts or bots to access the Service in a manner that exceeds reasonable human usage
- Re-sell or commercialise summaries generated by the Service without appropriate attribution and rights
We reserve the right to terminate access for any user found to be in violation of this Acceptable Use policy.
6. API Keys & Third-Party AI Providers
To generate summaries, the extension requires an API key from a supported AI provider (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, or Google Gemini). You are responsible for:
- Obtaining and maintaining valid API keys from the respective providers
- All costs and usage charges incurred through your API keys
- Complying with the terms of service of each AI provider
- Keeping your API keys secure and confidential
Your API keys are stored locally in your browser and are never transmitted to our servers. We are not liable for any charges, data loss, or damages resulting from misuse or unauthorised access to your API keys.
We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or responsible for OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google. Each provider's service is subject to their own terms, pricing, and availability.
7. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its code, design, logos, trademarks, and content (excluding user-generated summaries), is owned by or licenced to AISummary and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
YouTube transcripts are the property of their respective creators and YouTube. Your use of those transcripts via the extension must comply with YouTube's Terms of Service and applicable copyright law.
Summaries generated by third-party AI models are subject to the output policies of the respective AI provider. We make no claim of ownership over AI-generated summaries.
8. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR UNINTERRUPTED AVAILABILITY.
We do not warrant that:
- AI-generated summaries will be accurate, complete, or free from errors
- The Service will be available at all times or free from bugs
- Results obtained from the Service will meet your requirements
- The extension will remain compatible with future browser or YouTube updates
AI-generated summaries should not be relied upon as a substitute for reading, legal advice, medical advice, or any professional opinion.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall AISummary, its operators, officers, employees, or agents be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:
- Loss of profits, data, or goodwill
- Costs of substitute services
- Any damages resulting from reliance on AI-generated summaries
- Charges incurred through third-party AI provider APIs
Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $20.00, whichever is greater.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless AISummary and its operators from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:
- Your use of the Service
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any third-party rights, including copyright or privacy rights
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service (including revoking a Pro licence key) at our sole discretion, without prior notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms or any applicable law.
You may terminate your use of the Service at any time by uninstalling the extension. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Intellectual Property, Disclaimer, Limitation of Liability, and Indemnification) shall survive.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes relating to these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts. If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
13. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
We encourage you to review these Terms periodically. If you disagree with the updated Terms, you must stop using the Service.
