AISummary ("we," "us," or "our") operates the browser extension YouTube Transcript AI Summary and the website aisummary.app (collectively, the "Service").
By installing the extension or using our website, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please uninstall the extension and discontinue use of the Service.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Email address — collected when you purchase a Pro licence or request your API key via the key-retrieval form. We use this solely to deliver your licence key and send transactional emails (e.g. receipts, key reminders).
- Support communications — any information you voluntarily include when contacting us or opening a GitHub issue.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Analytics data — our website uses privacy-respecting analytics (aggregate page views, referrer, browser type) to understand how visitors discover and use the site. No personally identifiable information is stored.
- Server logs — standard web-server logs (IP address, timestamp, request path, HTTP status code) retained for up to 30 days for security and debugging purposes.
2.3 Information the Extension Does Not Collect
- Your browsing history or any URLs you visit outside of YouTube
- The content of YouTube videos you watch
- Your OpenAI, Claude, or Gemini API keys (these are stored locally in your browser)
- The summaries generated for you — these are processed between your browser and the AI provider of your choice
- Any data from non-YouTube pages
3. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Deliver and manage your Pro licence key
- Respond to support requests
- Monitor and improve the security and performance of the website
- Understand aggregate usage patterns to improve the Service
- Comply with applicable legal obligations
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
4. Third-Party Services
When you use the extension to generate a summary, your browser sends the YouTube video transcript directly to the AI provider you have configured (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, or Google Gemini). This communication is between your browser and the AI provider — we are not a party to it and do not receive or store that data.

Our website may use third-party services including Google Fonts (loaded from Google's CDN) and anonymous analytics. These services may set cookies or collect limited data subject to their own privacy policies.
5. Your API Keys
Your AI provider API keys are stored exclusively in your browser's local storage using the Chrome Extensions Storage API. They are never transmitted to our servers. We have no access to them.
Your Pro licence key (if purchased) is associated with your email address in our database. You can request deletion of this record at any time by contacting us at contact@aisummary.app.
7. Data Retention
- Email + licence record — retained for the duration of your licence plus 12 months, then permanently deleted unless required by law
- Server logs — automatically purged after 30 days
- Support correspondence — retained for 24 months after resolution
You may request early deletion at any time (see Your Rights below).
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access — request a copy of data we hold about you
- Rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
- Erasure — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
- Objection — object to certain processing of your data
- Restriction — request restriction of processing in certain circumstances

9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will provide a more prominent notice. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
